First Bottling!

On July 29th, the first barrel of Sand Creek Distillery's "Standard Single Malt Whisky" was bottled.  This whisky has been barrel aging for the past year waiting for this day...and it was ready!  For the most part it went pretty well...the temps were a little warm, but overall a pretty good day.  And of course, as with every first, I learned a lot.  For those of you interested in what I think about the notes:

Nose: Raisin & cured tobacco
1st Tasting Note: Raisin
2nd Note: Caramel
3rd (Finish) Note: Oak and vanilla tobacco

While this is a single malt, it has no peat or smoky flavors to it.  Also, since the barrel was a new, charred oak barrel it tends to have a sweeter and smoother character than many single malts.    For those interested in buying a bottle--I have a couple of commitments to make good on first--but I should have regular tasting room hours beginning in October.  Check this page for updates.
Look at that color!
